After nearly twenty Years of Chauffering some of the Biggest names in Showbiz, I decided to call it a Day. I had been asked several times to write a Book on my Life working alongside these people, so I decided to do just that. Boy did I not realise what I was letting myself in for ! I was approached by a publisher, John Blake Publishers.
After several meetings and possibilities of royalties of up to half a million,(Yes Right ?) that was to me! Like winning the lottery, I decided to go ahead. I was given an advance of just 8000 pounds to start writing. The writing of the Book went OK, took me about 2 months to write. Every one was pleased with the finished product. Did I say finished ?
We sent the manuscript to Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson, as although I never wrote anything detramental to either, I prefererred that they were comfortable with what I wrote. The reply from Michael's office was favourable, and MJ wished me luck with the Book. Mick Jagger was not so impressed. The manuscript was returned with lots of deletions,
So, OK my intentions were not to annoy him, so I agreed to the deletions he wanted, and went ahead with the publication. One week before the Book was to be on the shelves, Mick Jagger started injunction proceddings in court to stop the book being published ?????? Sour Grapes or what. TO%^ER
With some heavy stuff going on between Lawyers, and my publisher dealing with everything , and the Story hitting the Front Page of the news of the world. I was suddenly doing TV and Radio, stories in nearly every newspaper, and linked telephone interviews all around the world. Europe- Brazil- Australia- South Africa, USA, etc promoting the book.
Then one day I received a call from My publisher to say that legally, I was on my own( Bottle) and that I had to get my own Lawyers. Fair play I thought, so I did. After about 4 months, the Lawyers said, we could go ahead with the publication, and the publisher said, we would be front page again saying, This is the book Mick Jagger tried to ban.
WELL THAT did not happen. and the release day came, VERY QUIETLY, with no promotion, and I visited my local bookshops to see only about 5 copies on the shelves.that word (BOTTLE) springs to mind again. Especially when not one of my calls to the publisher has ever (to this day)been returned, and no explanation has ever been given, to what exactly happened between lawyers and publisher and Mick ! I think I know, but cannot libel myself. and even my Lawyers agree with me. The Case goes on to this day...........
P.S.My book is available at all good Bookshops,Waterstones etc, or on the net at Amazon ....
